1st Blog post: Enviromental Blogging

Does Yosemite need a Starbucks For my first blog post I chose an article by Katherine Martinko entailed, "Does Yosemite need a Starbucks?". This article explains the frustration people are having with development around National Parks. They do not want a Starbucks to be built around Yosemite, because of the city like feel that brings to the park. Over 20,000 people have signed a petition trying to stop this from happening. They are rejecting the idea of a huge chain like Starbucks to be around a beautiful and wild place such as Yosemite. The fear is that development could lead to later on commercialization of National Parks. I think this article was bias of only explaining the reason for the petition and not how a Starbucks could benefit Yosemite. It was very one sided and didn't provide enough facts. biographical sketch

I am currently a sophomore at Southern Utah University. I like to climb as much as possible, reason for me attending SUU. I took this class because I have a passion for the outdoors and would love to learn more about environmental issues. When it comes to political issues on the environment, I know little to nothing. This course should be very interesting.
